Welcome to our First Communion Preparation page. We are glad you are here and look forward to working with you to prepare your child to receive First Communion!
In the Archdiocese of Atlanta, First Communion is celebrated in the 2nd Grade or older. At St. Brendan’s students can begin preparing for First Communion as early as 1st grade by completing two consecutive years of faith formation. Once the child has completed or is in their second consecutive year of faith formation then they are eligible to be registered for our First Communion Sacramental preparation program in 2nd grade or older.

Guide for First Communion Preparation (2nd-4th Graders)
- Your family must be registered parishioners of St. Brendan’s and attend Sunday Mass.
- Your child must complete two consecutive years of Catholic Faith Formation
- Either through attending private Catholic school or St. Brendan’s Youth Faith Formation programs as early as 1st grade.
- Children attending St. Brendan’s Youth Faith Formation may not miss more than 3 classes total for Sunday/Wednesday SAIL sessions and no more than 1 class for Summer SAIL session to remain eligible.
- Children attending a private Catholic school will need to request and provide a letter verifying their enrollment and good standing in their two consecutive years of religious education at their school.
- Register your child online for 1st Communion in 2nd grade or older to receive the Sacrament of First Communion.
- The separate fee for First Communion covers the cost of the workshops, workbooks and service project in advance.
- Provide a scanned copy or clear photo print of your child’s baptismal certificate.
- Attend the mandatory First Communion Parent Information Session:
- Wednesday, September 6th (Last Name A-K ) from 5:30-6:30pm
- Wednesday, September 20th ( Last Name L-Z ) from 5:30-6:30pm
- Complete the First Reconciliation and First Communion Workbooks.
- The curriculum used for First Communion prep is the Blessed curriculum by Dynamic Catholic. Please click HERE to access the First Reconciliation videos and First Communion videos which accompany the workbooks.
- Attend the Parent/Child First Reconciliation Workshop on October 28, 2023:
- 9:30am - 11:30am (Last Name A-K)
- 12:30pm - 2:30pm (Last Name L-Z)
- Attend the Parent/Child First Reconciliation Drop-In Service on November 11, 2023.
- 10:30am - 12:30pm (All Last Names)
- Attend the Parent/Child First Communion Workshop - February 3, 2024:
- 9:30am - 11:30am (Last Name A-K)
- 12:30pm - 2:30pm (Last Name L-Z)
- Complete the First Communion Service Project
- November 6th, 9th, 13th OR 16th from 5:00-6:00pm (All Last Names)
- Sign Up for the Service Project HERE
- Attend the First Communion Rehearsals
- Tuesday, April 23, 2024 from 6:45-7:45pm (11 AM Mass)
- Thursday, April 25, 2024 from 6:45-7:45pm (2PM Mass)
- Attend the First Communion Mass on May 4, 2024 (including small groups at the regular Sunday Masses on May 5th)
- 11:00 a.m. ( Last Name A - K & Private Catholic School Students)
- 2:00 p.m. (Last Name L - Z)
***Nontraditional Age Students in 5th-12th:
Children in 5th through 12th grade who have not received the Sacrament of Baptism and/or First Communion, should communicate so in their registration and fall under the nontraditional track category.
Their First Communion preparation is similar in that, they would follow steps 1-5 & 10-12 from the other guide, but they have different preparation requirements as they do not complete the workbooks or attend the workshops.
- 5th-8th graders must attend the First Reconciliation workshop on October 14th (9:00am-12:30pm) and the First Communion Workshop on March 9th (9:00am-12:30pm)
- 9th-12th graders must meet 3-4 times with the First Communion Coordinator to ensure their readiness to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and Communion
